Following Professor Davis, Dr. Samuel Ping-Wai Wong (1967-1973) became Warden and ushered in a different chapter of Hornell’s history.
Dr. Wong was a Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at HKU. His illustrious engineering career was recognized by his being a fellow of the main professional institutions in the civil, mechanical, electrical and building services fields of engineering. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK).
Dr. Wong devoted much of his time to public service in the areas of education and training, town planning, land development, environment and transport. In addition, he was member of the Legislative Council, representing the Engineering Constituency, between 1991 and 1997.
He invariably served with distinction in his community service endeavors, and accordingly Dr. Wong was made a Justice of the Peace in 1986, a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1990 and an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1997.
