It is truly my great privilege to have participated in a mini-pupillage at Gary Soo's Chambers, which I secured through an application via Hornell Hall. Needless to say, a pupillage in chambers offers more than just substantive legal knowledge, it also gives you a clear insight into the dynamics between barristers and solicitors, whether working collaboratively within your own team or engaging with opposing counsel. What makes Gary Soo's Chambers particularly special, is its focus on civil litigation involving commercial and construction disputes, arbitration, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. These are areas that I, as a law student, seldom encounter in my studies, and they truly broadened my horizons. Not only did we attend meetings with Mr Soo to discuss cases and relevant arguments, but he also had us draft documents such as submissions and affirmations. Beyond that, the other barristers in chambers were equally generous, they shared valuable insights and even brought us to observe how their cases were handled in the courtroom. All in all, it has been an incredibly enriching and eye-opening experience, and I am truly thankful for the time, guidance, and generosity that everyone extended to me. I am sincerely grateful, and I would highly recommend any Hornell Hallmates interested in law to consider participating in similar opportunities.
